ABEO Annual Bangladeshi Engineers Night 2018

Association of Bangladeshi Engineers of Ontario (ABEO) hosted its 19th Annual Convention and “Bangladeshi Engineers Night” at Chandni Grand Banquet Hall, Scarborough, Toronto. ABEO represents approximately 800 engineers of Bangladeshi origin living in Ontario. The High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Canada His Excellency Mr. Mizanur Rahman attended as the chief guest. Among special guests were Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship of Canada Honourable Ahmed Hussen, The President of Engineer’s Institute of Bangladesh Mr. Abdus Sabur and The President of the University of Western Ontario Dr. Amit Chakma. Among the dignitaries were the President of ABEO Md. Rezaur Rahman and Senate Speaker of Sheridan Institute of Technology and Ex-President of ABEO Professor Dr. Mozammel Khan.  Members of ABEO, their families and many leaders of the Bangladeshi-Canadian community were also present.

First part of the night was the AGM and formal convention. The event started with the welcome speech from the Convenor of the event and Director of Finance of ABEO Mr. Nowsher Ali. Annual Report of ABEO was presented by Director Admin Mr. Habibur Rahman followed by the Annual Financial Report presented by Director of Finance. The chief guest and special guests took up microphone to convey their delight for being invited by such a prestigious organization to it’s Annual Convention. The speakers referred to the glorious history of almost 2 decades of ABEO and how the members have played a significant role in building our communities with their professional work as well as discharging responsibilities of model citizens. Leaders of the alumni associations of different Engineering Universities of Bangladesh were called upon stage and introduced to the audience.

 

The second half of the night was a stat-studded cultural event featuring performances by renowned performers of Toronto. Mrs. Tasrin Shikha and Md. Ali Tarique reciting poems, followed by songs from guest performer Ayesha Mousumi, Toronto’s very own Farhana Shanta, Shikha Rauf, Nafia Urmi, Liton Kazi, Rehana Begum, Md Atiqul Islam. Dance performances were brought on stage by the brilliant young performers of Shukanya Nrittyangon, directed by Aruna Haidar. The cultural segment was hosted by Azanta Chowdhury and Farhana Ahmed. Sound arrangement of the event was done by Rinko and support with musical instruments were provided by Sohel Imtiaz, Tanjeer Alam Rajib, Akib Akhtar and Paul.

Delicious food was served for dinner. It was a night of ABEO members reiterating the role of the organization and their commitment to build a strong community.
